Family Law Lawyers

What does a lawyer charge? Is the first consultation free? What does a family law lawyer do? Most family court judges spend a lot of time trying to persuade self-represented litigants to get a lawyer or at least get some legal advice. It seems that many people involved in family law disputes do not really understand exactly what family lawyers do and why it’s important to have one. Also, many people who have lawyers do not always make the best use of them.
Justice Brownstone interviews two family law lawyers from Saskatchewan to give an overview of what to expect from your lawyer. He finds out what they do and how much they charge.

What a terrific eye-opener to the way in which the lawyer-client relationship works in family law! I found it so helpful and watched it on the recommendation of my lawyer before deciding whether to retain her. This episode should be obligatory viewing for all family law clients before venturing out to hire a lawyer. Actually, EVERY episode of this show should be mandatory. This show is terrific and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get the most out of their relationship with their lawyer (and the most out of their legal fees!). Thank you Judge Brownstone for your public education efforts. You are a very good interviewer and asked all the questions that I wanted answers to. Please make more episodes soon!

My teenage son just watched this episode on the recommendation of his high school teacher (they had a "career day"), and now he wants to be a lawyer. I don't know whether to thank Judge Brownstone or curse him! Oh well, there are worse things for a teenager to watch on the internet than a public legal education show! I hope my son turns out to be at least as good a lawyer as the lawyers who appear on this show. I'll let you know in about 10 years!

I cannot tell you enough how much I love this show. I cannot understand why more people don't know about it. Are there any plans to put this show on TV? This show is better than Judge Judy, Dr. Phil or any of those "self help" reality shows out there on TV. Hearing from a real judge, who asks intelligent questions and presents guests who know what they're talking about is SO refreshing and SO very necessary. PLEASE make more episodes and PLEASE make more people aware of this wonderful show. I loved the Lawyer episode so much I made all my friends watch it (3 of them are going through family court right now). Bravo to Justice Brownstone and to all those supporting this show. It's brilliant.
